GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Lessons learned from health system challenges, coupled with insights on the political and institutional environment inform our strategic approach for strengthening health data and geospatial systems in DRC
Strategic Approach Overview
Our guiding principles are built on evidence-based insights from health system challenges and the political and institutional environment in DRC. These principles will drive our strategic approach for strengthening health data and geospatial systems across the country.
📊
Catalytic Impact First
We will focus on strengthening health outcomes and use that as the starting point for our geospatial and data systems work in DRC. This will drive decisions around our focus and resource allocation for polio eradication, malaria control, and routine immunization.
We will prioritize interventions that have multiplier effects across health programs - where investments in geospatial infrastructure, data systems, and capacity building create cascading benefits that strengthen multiple health outcomes simultaneously.
We will leverage strategic entry points such as polio surveillance systems and malaria mapping to build foundational geospatial capabilities that transform how all health programs operate, creating sustainable impact beyond our direct investments.
📈
Prioritize Data for Decision-Making
We will prioritize the collection, integration, and use of geospatial and health data to track impact and provide regular insights and intelligence on health system performance across DRC's 26 provinces.
🏛️
Government Leadership & Alignment
Focus our technical assistance on highest impact decision-makers within the Ministry of Health, PNLP, PEV, DSNIS, and provincial health leadership.
Align our geospatial systems work with ANICNS and national data infrastructure priorities to ensure sustainable integration with government systems.
🤝
Foster Local Capacity & Collaboration
Build and strengthen mutually aligned partnerships with DevAfrique, SANRU, Caritas DRC, and academic institutions like KSPH to ensure progress through clearly-defined coordination and capacity building structures.
Continue supporting capacity of local implementing partners and institutions including health zone teams, CHWs, and provincial data teams as one way to build sustainability aligned with long-term health system strengthening.
